Drive Industry News — May 2026
Innomotics secures major eLNG drive orders, new Sinamics S210 servo motors expand application range, and WEG invests R$160m in motor production. A quick round-up of the latest developments from the world of industrial drives.
Innomotics Drives LNG Electrification
Innomotics, Siemens' industrial drives spin-off, has secured major eLNG drive orders to accelerate LNG electrification. The orders, reported by Vietnam Investment Review, signal growing momentum behind electrifying large-scale LNG infrastructure — a segment where medium- and high-voltage drives play a critical role. For our Czech industrial customers, this confirms that Innomotics remains a key player in heavy-duty drive solutions, particularly for MV/HV applications across oil, gas, and process industries.
Siemens Expands SINAMICS S210 Servo Drive Family
Siemens has introduced new motors extending the application range of the Sinamics S210 servo drive system. The S210, already popular in packaging, handling, and robotics applications, now covers a wider torque and speed envelope — giving machine builders more flexibility without switching platforms. Alongside this, Siemens also announced a new servo drive system that simplifies project engineering for machine builders, cutting commissioning time.
WEG Invests R$160M in Brazilian Motor Production
WEG has announced plans to invest R$160 million (approx. €28M) into motor production in Brazil, as reported by Drives & Controls. This investment targets increased capacity and efficiency improvements, reinforcing WEG's position as one of the world's largest electric motor manufacturers. For European distributors, this signals continued supply chain stability from a major global OEM.
IE5 / Efficiency Regulation Watch
With the 2027 DOE motor standards approaching, ABB has published guidance on understanding the new US efficiency requirements. While these are US-specific, they often foreshadow similar tightening in European standards (IE4/IE5). Worth keeping an eye on if you're specifying motors for export or working with global OEMs.
Bottom line: Innomotics is cementing its position in HV drives for energy infrastructure, Siemens keeps refining its servo portfolio for machine builders, and WEG continues to scale motor production. The efficiency regulation landscape is shifting — prepare for IE5 becoming the new baseline sooner than expected.
